Overview

The L2 Azure SME is responsible for handling day‑to‑day operational support, incident troubleshooting, and platform management across Azure IaaS and PaaS services. The role requires hands‑on technical skills, strong problem‑solving ability, and the capability to work on escalations from L1 support teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide L2 support for Azure IaaS workloads including VMs, Storage Accounts, VNets, NSGs, Azure Firewall, Load Balancers, Application Gateway, Azure Backup, and Update Manager.
  • Troubleshoot VM performance issues (CPU, Memory, Disk, Network).
  • Monitor Azure resources using Azure Monitor, Alerts, Log Analytics.
  • Perform operational tasks such as VM resizing, OS patching, disk expansion, backup/restore requests, and resource configuration changes.
  • Support automated deployment tasks using basic Infrastructure‑as‑Code concepts such as ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform.
  • Review and resolve alerts related to compute, network, backup, and security.
  • Work on incident and service request queues; ensure SLAs are met.
  • Assist with Azure AD/Entra ID access issues and RBAC troubleshooting.
  • Execute PowerShell and CLI commands for diagnostics and configuration tasks.
  • Maintain documentation of recurring issues, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.
  • Coordinate with L3/Architect teams for unresolved or design‑level challenges.

Required Skills

  • Hands‑on experience with Azure VMs, Storage, Networking, Backup, Monitoring, IaC.
  • Good understanding of AVD basics, FSLogix, and profile troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Azure Firewall/App Gateway/Load Balancers.
  • Ability to run/debug PowerShell scripts for Azure operations.
  • Working knowledge of Azure Resource Manager, policies, and RBAC.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ITSM tools (ServiceNow preferred).
  • Knowledge of automation (Azure Automation, Logic App basics).
  • Basic understanding of cost analysis and governance.
