Title: IT Asset Management - Contractor
Area(s) of responsibility
The IT Asset Management (ITAM) professional is responsible for managing and controlling the IT assets within an organization throughout their lifecycle, in alignment with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) best practices. This role ensures that assets are effectively tracked, utilized, and maintained to optimize cost, support IT service delivery, and ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement IT asset management policies, procedures, and standards in accordance with ITIL guidelines.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all hardware and software assets across the organization.
- Oversee the entire asset lifecycle, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, renewal, and disposal.
- Track license compliance and usage for software assets to avoid legal and financial risks.
- Coordinate with procurement, finance, and IT teams to ensure proper asset acquisition and allocation.
- Monitor asset performance, depreciation, and end-of-life schedules to inform budgeting and refresh cycles.
- Conduct regular audits and reconciliations of physical and digital assets.
- Maintain asset records in the configuration management database (CMDB) and ensure data integrity.
- Support incident, problem, and change management processes with accurate asset information.
- Generate reports and analytics to support decision-making regarding cost optimization and risk mitigation.
- Facilitate the secure and environmentally responsible disposal of retired assets.
- Stay updated on ITIL practices and industry trends related to asset management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with IT asset management, preferably in an ITIL-driven environment.
- Knowledge of ITIL framework, especially Service Asset and Configuration Management (SACM).
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with asset management tools and CMDB systems.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Understanding of software licensing models and compliance requirements.
Preferred Certifications
- ITIL Foundation Certification
- Certified IT Asset Manager (CITAM) or similar asset management certification
Reporting Structure
The IT Asset Management professional typically reports to the IT Service Manager, IT Operations Manager, or a similar leadership role within the IT department.
