The Industrial Automation – Ignition Technical Lead will lead the design, development, and delivery of Ignition based industrial automation and MES solutions. This role is responsible for end to end technical ownership of Ignition projects, including system architecture, SCADA/MES integration, IoT enablement, and team mentorship. The position plays a critical role in driving smart manufacturing, connected factory, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Solution Design
Lead architecture and technical design of Inductive Automation Ignition solutions for MES, SCADA, and IIoT use cases.
Define system architectures integrating Ignition with PLCs, historians, MES, ERP, and cloud IoT platforms.
Provide technical leadership across projects, ensuring scalability, security, and performance best practices.
Review and approve solution designs, code, and configurations developed by engineering teams.
Ignition Development & Integration
Design and develop Ignition applications including Perspective, Vision, Gateway scripting, and module integrations.
Implement real time dashboards, KPIs, OEE, batch tracking, alarms, and reporting solutions.
Lead integration with industrial systems using OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, REST APIs, and Tag Historian.
Enable edge and cloud connectivity for IIoT and Digital MES architectures.
MES & Industrial Automation
Lead MES integrations covering production tracking, quality, downtime, genealogy, and performance monitoring.
Collaborate with controls, OT, and IT teams to ensure seamless shop floor to enterprise connectivity.
Drive standardization and reusable components across MES & IoT implementations.
Delivery, Quality & DevOps
Ensure adherence to delivery timelines, quality benchmarks, and coding standards.
Define CI/CD, version control, and deployment strategies for Ignition projects.
Troubleshoot complex production issues related to performance, communication, and system reliability.
Ensure cybersecurity and compliance with OT/IT security standards.
Stakeholder Management & Mentoring
Act as the primary technical interface for customers, architects, and internal stakeholders.
Mentor and guide senior engineers and engineers on Ignition best practices and industrial automation concepts.
Contribute to pre sales, solutioning, effort estimations, and proposals when required.
Mandatory Skills
Core Technical Skills
Strong hands on expertise with Inductive Automation Ignition (Perspective, Vision, Scripting, Gateway).
Deep knowledge of SCADA, MES, and industrial automation architectures.
Extensive experience with OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, PLC integration, and industrial networking.
Advanced scripting skills using Python (Jython) within Ignition.
Experience working with Tag Historian, SQL databases, and time series data.
Cloud, IoT & Integration
Experience integrating Ignition with IoT platforms (Azure IoT, AWS IoT, or equivalent).
Exposure to edge gateways, IIoT architectures, and cloud based MES solutions.
Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and enterprise integrations.
DevOps & Security
Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker (basic), and deployment automation.
Knowledge of OT/IT cybersecurity principles and secure industrial system design.
