Monitoring configuration:
Designing and implementing monitoring rules, alerts, and dashboards to track system performance and identify critical issues across various IT components.
Management pack creation and management:
Developing and deploying custom management packs to monitor specific applications or infrastructure elements not covered by standard packs.
Alert escalation:
Setting up appropriate escalation procedures for alerts based on severity and assigning them to relevant teams.
Reporting and analysis:
Generating reports on system health, performance trends, and potential issues to provide insights for proactive decision-making.
Troubleshooting and remediation:
Investigating alerts, identifying root causes of issues, and coordinating with other IT teams to resolve problems.
SCOM infrastructure management:
Installing, configuring, and maintaining SCOM servers, agents, and related components.
Capacity planning:
Monitoring system performance and identifying potential bottlenecks to ensure scalability
Integration with other tools:
Integrating SCOM with other IT management systems like SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager) for streamlined operations.
Required skills for an SCOM Admin:
Deep understanding of Microsoft SCOM: Expertise in SCOM architecture, configuration options, and monitoring capabilities.
Scripting knowledge: Proficiency in PowerShell scripting to automate tasks and manage SCOM configurations
Network and system administration skills: Understanding of network protocols, operating systems (Windows), and system management concepts
Problem-solving abilities: Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex system issues
ITIL framework knowledge: Awareness of IT service management best practices
